You might have been lazy with your home insurance policy, or you probably did not give it as much attention as you should have. However, with the new year coming up, now is the perfect time for you to take a new start and be more meticulous about your home insurance policy. There are many things that you can start with which will lower your premiums significantly.
The fist and foremost thing you should do to start your home-insurance-year is by raising your deductible. You might have heard this before, but now is the time for you to take some action instead of just lazing around in the winters. You might think why you should raise your deductible because it doesn't make sense in paying more. If you do not know, by raising your deductible you are actually saving money in the long run.
If you have a less deductible and your house has suffered a significant damage, then you would be given less coverage as you would have otherwise. This means you would have to pay for a lot of damages right out of your own pocket. So what do you think is a better deal- paying a few hundred dollars to raise your deductible or paying a few thousand dollars to cover for the damages to your house? Just what I thought.
Home insurance companies have been yelling for the past few years to make your home a safer place and we will give you discounts. All you need is to do is probably get fire extinguishers, fire alarms and other security measures and you are eligible for various discounts, and all these discounts lead to reduced premiums. So even if you spend money in getting all these, it will be paid back to in the form of less insurance cost. And if you want even further discounts, you can probably strengthen the structure of your house and you're good to go.
So do not waste anytime in making potential savings, and raise your deductible and install security devices. Few years down the lane you will be smiling at the amount of money you have saved, and will be proud of yourself.
